Four-way Round Robin in Los Angeles

On October 18 and 19, FC Barcelona will be appearing in a four-team tournament in Los Angeles with the Lakers, Raptors and Clippers. That means Barça appearing in a tournament alongside Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol.

The winner of the game between FC Barcelona and the Los Angeles Lakers will meet the winners of Toronto Raptors v Los Angeles Clippers. The two losing teams will meet the day after, thus ensuring that all four teams get to play two games.

Europe vs North America

The tournament is the result of an agreement between the NBA and the Euroleague as part of the forging of closer links between the two continental leagues. Two other European teams, CSKA Moscow and Lietuvos Rytas, will also be playing games against sides from the NBA.

The Russians are in Orlando, against the Magic, on October 10, and in Toronto, to face the Raptors four days later. Meanwhile, the Lithuanians face Golden State Warriors on October 21 in Oakland.

Also for the third year running, some NBA teams will be touring Europe, namely Miami Heat, the New Jersey Nets, the New Orleans Hornets and the Washington Wizards, who will travel to Barcelona, Berlin, London and Paris, as part of NBA Europe Live 2008.

To all-
I cannot tell you what a pleasure it was to spend time with your sons in Paris. Each one of them was polite, respectful and full of enthusiasm to have the opportunity to play soccer. They each demonstrated amazingly strong family values and an excellent upbringing. You should each be very proud of their conduct. I'm not going to lie, when this project first landed in my lap a few weeks ago, I had major reservations about managing a group of 11 year old boys. Now, I am so glad I had this experience and would not trade it for the world.

Your kids made me proud to be with them, representing the USA. They made friends with kids from other countries regardless of race, cultural differences or language barriers. It warmed my heart to watch them share their shin guards with Cameroon, or make Mauritius feel welcome by including them in the games they were playing. Or get so excited to meet the team from Spain! I was only with them for a few days, but they'll be in my heart forever. You are very blessed to have them part of your daily life.

NIKE SPARQ CHALLENGE - A BIG SUCCESS!

All in all it was a great day for our kids to participate in the Sparq Challenge. They were all tested in four categories, speed, agility, vertical leap, and endurance. After the testing was complete, players and coaches were presented their scores for evaluation purposes and to see where they rank amongst their peers. It's a great way to identify exactly which areas they need work on. Thanks to Nike for putting on this event and we look forward to more events in the future.

NIKE SPARQ CHALLENGE

The Nike mobile SPARQ Challenge tour is making it's way over to test our kids. This program is the biggest and most recognized athletic testing program in the US and we are excited that they have chosen FC Barcelona as a test Club.

"La Penya de California" FC Barcelona have made their mark on Hollywood Boulevard. The Blaugrana squad all enjoyed a day out with Kobe Bryant outside the Kodak Theatre in front of more than 5,000 supporters eager to see their heroes. It was like a scene from the Oscars as the red carpet was rolled out on the famous street where stars of the silver screen have their names engraved in the pavement. The Barça players were received like film stars and revelled in the occasion. Red carpet reception In the Hollywood & Highland Complex, located at the heart of motion picture industry, the Barcelona players once again received a warm reception from their American-based fans. All the players made their entrance along the red carpet, with the crowd along both sides, as the anthem of the club was played and people stood with banners emblazoned with the Barça motto 'More than a club'. At the end of the carpet awaited one of America's most iconic figures, Los Angeles Lakers' basketball player Kobe Bryant, to greet the players. Visit www.fcbarcelona.com Nike sponsored event Our Penya players were also greeted as movie stars as they walked down the red carpet that led them to a VIP section where they would await their heroes. As Miss Universe made her entrance the fans knew that the players were soon to come. Kobe Bryant soon followed and the Los Angeles spectators roared. The Barça anthem began and the crowd went wild, our Penya players were astonished as they saw the technical directors and their favorite players make their entrance; Deco, Dos Santos, Eto’o, Puyol, Marquez , Ronaldinho and many others so close they could be touched. The players were then introduced one by one and given the opportunity to speak to the crowd. Ronaldinho, Puyol, Marquez and Dos Santos were later ushered to the center arena to play 4v4 against four of our lucky FCB California Penya players. For many of us that attended this was an experience of a lifetime, our club was given the opportunity to shine with the best in the world! We thank Nike for the great experience.
